Hotel Babylon representation essay

This British TV Drama series 'Hotel Babylon' shows the core representation groups of ethnicity and class/status. Ethnicity is seen through the illegal immigrants working in the Hotel Babylon. Class and status is shown through men looking down on the ethnic people. We see a contrast between the  people of status who hold dominance over the immigrants.  Stuart Halls reception theory is seen in this clip as there is an encoded message in which the audience decodes. This message sent to the audience is that these immigrants are more than just illegal citizens, but that they have come to the UK for a fresh start and to become apart of their society. British television drama  series. Ethnicity and status/wealth are the two main representational groups we have seen in this short clip. Immigrants have lower jobs in a different country; even lower than what they are qualified  for. For example, the man who helped the diabetic woman used to be a doctor hence why he says; 'I wasn't always a cleaner'. The immigrants work as cleaners and chiefs in the 5 star hotel; they are starting at the bottom even though some of them have high qualifications in other countries. We can see that the immigrants are hiding as one of the immigrants who got taken; his brothers and dad got murdered. The immigrants just want to live a life of freedom but that is overtaken by the immigrant officers higher authority.   British white men who are immigrant officers have dominance and power over the immigrants who take their freedom away. This short clip taken from the TV series 'Riverdale' is a Teen Drama which shows the core media representation groups of class/status and age. The opening scenes of this clip show a strong sense of typical High school stereotypes which have been thoughtfully created through the use of camera, mise en scene, sound and editing. In this short two minute clip we see the contrast between normal high school students and students who see pride in themselves and act dominant over everyone else such as Cheryl blossom, Who is seen as wealthy and strong willed. This short clip taken from the TV crime Drama, 'Homeland', the core media representation groups of status and gender are presented. Gender is shown through the main character trying to get information out of a prisoner who is soon to be executed. This woman is portrayed as strong and brave transcending the normal conventions men are normally portrayed as independent and confident. This woman shows that she is eager to get the information from the prisoner who has on the imamate attack on US soil by helping him commute his sentence. However, with this fails, she shows her tough side when she offers to help the prisoners family in trade for his intel on the attack.
